Why We’re Staying Small—On Purpose

In an industry where most builders are racing to scale as fast as possible, we’ve chosen a different path at Bluerock.

Over the years, I’ve worked for a variety of construction companies—some small, some massive. I learned a lot watching how they operated: the good, the bad, and everything in between. Some were masters of craftsmanship with solid systems in place. Others moved fast, but at the cost of quality and client experience.

What became clear to me early on was this: bigger doesn’t always mean better.

Fast Growth vs. Deep Experience

At one large company I worked for, I saw young project managers—many fresh out of college—overseeing massive builds. While they were smart and capable, many hadn’t spent enough time on job sites. Without that hands-on experience, decisions were sometimes made without truly understanding the real-world impact on the build.

I knew that wasn’t the kind of company I wanted to lead.

When I brought Bluerock back to life in 2018, I decided we’d stay intentionally small. Not because we lack ambition—but because we’re committed to staying hands-on and delivering high-quality homes with care and precision.

Why Small Works Better—for You

At Bluerock, we don’t take on as many projects as possible. We take on the right ones—projects where we can stay closely involved and give our full attention to every detail.

Here’s what that looks like in practice:

  • I’m in regular project meetings to ensure things are running smoothly.

  • I work directly with our team and our clients, instead of passing them off to someone else.

  • When challenges come up, I’m right there to troubleshoot and make sure things are handled the right way.

Our clients often tell us how relieved they are to have that kind of direct involvement. They don’t have to worry about being just another job number in a massive queue. And we don’t have to worry about quality slipping through the cracks.

We’re Always Improving, Not Expanding

We’ve experimented with different approaches over the years. We’ve made mistakes, learned from them, and refined how we work. But one thing has stayed the same: staying small allows us to keep our standards high.

For us, building a home isn’t just a transaction. It’s a collaboration. It’s the start of a space where your family will grow, gather, and make lifelong memories.

And that deserves our full attention.

If you're looking for a custom home builder in Utah who’s truly invested from the first conversation to the final walkthrough, we’d love to talk.
