Custom Home Remodel & Addition

Step inside this 1924 Gilmer Park English Cottage remodel in downtown Salt Lake City, Utah.

The kitchen was outdated and lacked the modern functionality our clients needed. We were able to adjust the cramped layout with a 1,000 square foot addition to the back of the house. Some of the standout features include a custom white oak island and deep green painted cabinets with a micro shaker detail. The countertop and backsplash is Taj Mahal Quartzite. The appliances are imported from Italy.

The original 1925 home had elliptical arches in from the entry to the dining room and the dining room to the kitchen. We honored the history of the home by replicating the arch detail from the kitchen to the mudroom and preserving the arch detail even when we expanding the opening of the dining room to the kitchen.  Our finish carpenter carefully removed and rebuilt the original stained wood paneling when we opened the archway. Preserving the historic wood work makes this space feel like it was always this way.

This mudroom is the primary entrance for the homeowner’s busy family. It needed to be functional but also full of style. The custom cabinets in Benjamin Moore Space Black have a ton of punch. Paired with the marble checker board floor, the mudroom is functional and forever beautiful.

Many of the historic homes in Salt Lake are missing a primary suite. Today’s modern couples need and want a private oasis to call their own. With the addition on this historic 1925 home, we were able to create a sanctuary primary bedroom and bathroom. The bathroom features custom white oak cabinetry and a moody zellige tile shower.

Each project should uniquely reflect the home owner. We listened to our clients early on about creating a fun place to raise their two young sons. Each bedroom is full of playful details including dinosaur wallpaper and a special reading nook.
