From DIY Remodels to Luxury Custom Homes: The Story Behind Bluerock

If you've been following along with Bluerock for a while, you might notice a shift in how we're doing things. Starting now, our blog is going to get a little more personal.

Instead of just showing polished project photos or the latest trends in home design, I want to share the behind-the-scenes lessons I’ve learned over the years—from humble beginnings to building high-end custom homes across Utah. Whether you're planning a full home renovation, building from scratch, or just daydreaming about your future space, my goal is to give you real insights that help you make confident, informed decisions.

How It Started: Remodeling Nights and Weekends

I’m Dave, founder of Bluerock—a custom home builder based here in Utah.

Back in 2010, Bluerock was a one-man show. I was working toward my construction management degree and picking up small remodeling jobs in the evenings and on weekends. Kitchens, bathrooms, basements—you name it, I tried it. I loved the work, but I knew there was more to learn if I wanted to build something great.

Learning from the Best in the Business

To grow, I took a job in commercial construction in Hawaii. Over the next several years, I worked on everything from luxury condos to five-star resorts. These were complex, high-budget projects with tight deadlines and even tighter standards. I got a crash course in what true craftsmanship looks like—and what it takes to run a job site with precision and professionalism.

It wasn’t just about beautiful finishes. It was about planning, communication, and knowing how to deliver top-tier quality at every stage.

Bringing It Back Home to Utah

In 2018, I relaunched Bluerock with a new vision: to become one of the top custom home builders in Utah—focusing on thoughtful design, quality construction, and homes that truly improve the way families live.

At Bluerock, we don’t just build houses—we create spaces that support your everyday life. Whether that means designing a kitchen that makes mornings smoother, a mudroom that actually works for your busy family, or an open-concept living area that feels just right for gathering and hosting, every decision we make is centered around function, quality, and comfort.

Why It Matters

Over the years, I’ve realized that a well-designed home can have a real impact on your daily routine and overall well-being. And that’s what keeps me going—helping families create spaces that feel good to live in, because they’re designed for how you actually live.

If you're thinking about building a custom home in Utah or planning a high-end renovation, I’d love to be part of your journey. Bluerock was built with people like you in mind—those who want honest guidance, quality craftsmanship, and a home that feels like it was truly made for you.

Thanks for being here.
