Your Home Should Be Built Around the Way You Live—Not the Other Way Around

Most homes are built for the average person.
The problem is, no one is average.

You and your family have unique routines, preferences, and habits—and your home should reflect that. But too often, people end up living in spaces that work against their lifestyle instead of supporting it.

Think about it:

  • Shoes constantly piling up near the door?
That’s not a cleanliness issue—it’s a design issue. You probably don’t have a proper mudroom.

  • Clothes always stacked on the bed waiting to be folded?
It’s not about falling behind on laundry. It’s about lacking a functional space that makes folding and organizing easy.

A well-designed home should make daily life easier, not harder.
At Bluerock, we design homes with real life in mind—homes that don’t just look beautiful but feel effortless to live in.

Thoughtful Design Solves Everyday Problems

Here’s the truth: a one-size-fits-all floor plan rarely fits anyone well. The best home design starts with one key question:
“How will you actually use this space?”

From there, everything changes:

🥾 A Mudroom That Eliminates Clutter

Instead of shoes, coats, and backpacks taking over your entryway, a custom mudroom gives everything a place. Add closed storage, hooks at the right height, and easy-to-clean flooring, and suddenly the mess takes care of itself.

🧺 A Laundry Room That Works for You

Folding clothes on the couch—or worse, never folding them at all—is often a sign the laundry room was an afterthought. But with enough space, counter surfaces, and smart storage, laundry can go from dreaded chore to just another part of your day.

🍳 A Kitchen That Supports How You Live

Whether you’re hosting Sunday dinners or heating up leftovers between soccer practice and bedtime, your kitchen should be laid out in a way that supports your real routines. Function and beauty are not mutually exclusive—and we design for both.

A Real-Life Example: The Yalecrest Historic Remodel

We recently brought this philosophy to life in our Yalecrest Historic English Cottage Remodel in Salt Lake City.

The home, originally built in 1924, had charm for days—but the layout didn’t suit the way our clients actually lived.

So, we made a change.

With a thoughtfully designed 1,000-square-foot addition, we created:

  • A chef-worthy kitchen with a white oak island, rich green cabinetry, and Italian appliances that make cooking both practical and inspiring.

  • A custom-designed mudroom—the family’s main entrance—that blends beauty and function with built-ins and a marble checkerboard floor.

  • A serene primary suite, giving the homeowners the privacy and comfort they were missing in the original floor plan.

The result? A home that still honors its history but is built for modern living.
